Indeed He is Risen!We all know how to respond when someone says, "Peace be with you." In fact, the reply probably pops into your mind automatically when you hear those words. "And also with you" just seems natural because most of us have grown up saying it. And what do you do when someone sneezes? Regardless of where you are -- even in the workplace, where religion is not supposed to tread -- someone will say, "Bless you." But when someone says, "He is risen," how do you respond? It's ironic that many Catholics wouldn't even know that there is a response, much less what that response should be. I say it's ironic because it's an old tradition that has to do with the very reason for our faith: the Resurrection. When someone says, "He is risen," our response should be, "Indeed he is risen!" That response is what it's all about. It's the very reason for Christianity. When we can say that response with real conviction in our hearts, we are truly followers of Jesus Christ. Indeed he is risen! Yes, I believe! I believe that Jesus was the Christ -- the Messiah -- the only son of God. I know that he suffered and died for our sins, that we might be redeemed. I believe that he rose from the dead and that by his resurrection he conquered death for us. I believe that if I live in Christ, I will live forever! Indeed he is risen! I believe that Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father and that the Holy Spirit is hard at work in the world today -- inspiring Christians everywhere, guiding the Church in her holy mission to create the Kingdom of God on earth, and helping me to live in Christ so that I will live forever! He is risen! Say it loud and clear -- and say it often during these fifty days of Easter. And when people look at you like you're crazy, just smile and say the response yourself. Indeed he is risen!
