Corrected Vision
I went to the eye doctor yesterday for the first time in two years. Amazingly, my prescription only increased by one "click" -- the least amount measurable by the big lens-flipping vision-checker thing. For someone whose eyes have gotten progressively worse for almost 20 years, that was fantastic!
Don't get me wrong, I can see well enough to function without my glasses. I can even drive if I have to, though it's a bit dangerous. It's just that anything further than a few feet away is pretty doggoned blurry. My corrected vision, however, is 20/20.
In many ways, Christ is like a pair of glasses for our lives. Can people function without Him? Sure. Billions of people have done so throughout history. They've lived and died without ever knowing Jesus, just as billions of people have lived and died without ever knowing what it is like to wear glasses and see the world in focus.
Wearing glasses is not always easy. Sometimes I don't realize they are even there; but other times, they are a nuisance and a pain to wear. Is Christianity like that? Is it easy to be a Christian sometimes? I know that it is definitely difficult on occasion. But at the end of the day, I know that it is better to see the world in focus.
Knowing Jesus and his teachings allows us to see the world in a different way. It lets us see things in God-focus, they way He intended things to be. With Jesus as the "glasses" for our lives, our corrected "vision" of the world can be 20/20.
Peace,
~Brandon
